Race Horses: Part 3

This page includes screenshots taken after the epilogue. Horses acquired through missions are indicated but missions not detailed.  If you're only interested in the best horses available early game please check out the horse database at https://www.gtabase.com/red-dead-redemption-2/  where you can sort for availability.

Horses featured are available in Story mode only and are sorted first for availability and then statistics.  Some other Racing class horses can be found on the Multiclass page.

All race horses on this page have racing handling. Their best attribute is Speed. All available wild Race Horses have the same statistics.

RDR2-Brindle Thoroughbred
Trying to do the dressage sideways movement here but it's hard to capture in a screenshot. He has his head and neck nicely flexed though.

Brindle Thoroughbred. Acquired: Strawberry Stable. Availability: Chapter 3. Name: Slugger.
Health 3, Stamina 3, Speed 7, Acceleration 5.

This one has the same stats as the free Dappled Black Throroughbred from the Special and Ultimate Editions so is the fastest horse available early in the regular edition albeit at the price of 450 dollars. We picked him up much later at Strawberry Stable. We had to outran wolves immediately after leaving the stable but that was no problem. He navigated Blackwater just fine so we took him to St. Denis. We got bumped and spun around in an intersection. We went to the side to calm him down but accidentally bumped an NPC who wanted a fight. We tried to get away but several NPCs joined in and PC kept getting pulled down from horse so we had to fight back. PC accidentally hit the horse and got kicked to death. Hence the name Slugger. We then left St. Denis to look for an unattended boat on the river. He was OK with alligators as long as we didn't get too close. We got attacked by enemy NPCs and he handled that well. Overall, he was pretty similiar to Dancer.

RDR2-Reverse Dapple Roan Nokota
Couldn't trigger a race event but the stable dogs like to run with us sometimes.

Reverse Dapple Roan Nokota. Acquired: St. Denis Stable. Availability: Chapter 4. Name: Silent Bob.
Health 3, Stamina 3, Speed 7, Acceleration 5.

This Nokota has the exact same statistics as the Dappled Black and Brindle Thoroughbreds but I found him noticeably different in size and character. We headed out of St. Denis to the bait shop and for some reason went around and entered through the north end of the settlement. Silent Bob noticed a bear on his right side and started to head left for the alligators. I had to fight him a little bit to get him back on the road. The bear went his way so that potential disaster was averted. He calmed down and we continued on our way stopping to fish and look for plants outside St. Denis. He wasn't showing any signs of concern over alligators but when I dismounted to retrieve a pelt he very silently removed himself to another area. He did get agitated a bit in another area but I found him easier to control than the high end thoroughbreds. I wanted to race this horse badly but I couldn't trigger any more horse races. I really like how this horse looks and moves.  He's just as fast as the Thoroughbreds and has a quieter nature. In my opinion anyway.

RDR2-Seal Brown Thoroughbred
Rachel after passing her second big free roam test.

Seal Brown Thoroughbred.  Acquired: Mission. Availability: Epilogue. Name: Rachel.
Health: 4, Stamina 4, Speed 6, Acceleration 4.

Rachel is the free unique named horse the player character acquires during the epilogue. She's a notch slower than the Brindle and Dappled Black but she has slightly better Health and Stamina. It might be my imagination but I swear she's less excitable as well. She only gets a low ranking for not being available until very late in the game. She endures missions well but the real test is always free roam. She held up stoically under an ambush and a three wolf pack attack. To be fair, we were able to get out in an open space and turn on them but still, I was impressed with her. After skinning the wolves, we searched around the area and she reacted when we passed by a wolf carcass as if she remembered. I thought it was a nice touch. Overall, this a beautiful horse. Unfortunately, she's not replaceable so the player has to commit to her. Which of course, I did not.

RDR2-Silvertail Buckskin American Standardbred
This horse has the wildest eyes. I aggravated him a bit to get them to bug out more...because I'm nice like that.

Silvertail Buckskin American Standardbred. Acquired: Tumbleweed Stable. Availability: Epilogue.
Health 4, Stamina 4, Speed 5, Acceleration 4.

This one has slightly better Health and Stamina than the Palomino Dapple American Standardbred but the player has to wait until the Tumbleweed Stable unlocks to get him. He is quite unique looking and I had fun with him. We fast travelled back to New Hanover and went exploring from there. He got very agitated over snakes. We stopped to explore an abandoned location that was full of little annoying biting things. I left him outside but eventually noticed that he had jumped into a nearby river in a panic and was in the middle fighting the current against some rocks. I tried to pull him out with the lasso and get a photo at the same time but I failed at both things. He furiously got himself out. I was laughing so hard I didn't think to save video. We ended up in the south end of Lemoyne and went panther hunting. PC got killed by a panther right after hitching the horse. The horse was fine. We gave up after a second panther death and took a very long uneventful ride back to Tumbleweed.
