Riding Horses: Part 2

This page includes screenshots taken after the epilogue and may reveal plot details and locations. Horses acquired through missions are indicated but missions not detailed.  If you're only interested in the best horses available early game please check out the horse database at https://www.gtabase.com/red-dead-redemption-2/  where you can sort for availability.

Horses featured are available in Story mode only and are sorted first for availability and then statistics.

All Riding Class horses have standard handling. The Tennessee Walker's best attributes are Health and Stamina, the Kentucky Saddler's are Health and Speed and the Morgan's are Stamina and Speed. All but one are available early game.

RDR2-Palomino Morgan
Champ reversing, the most useful horse skill.

Palomino Morgan. Acquired: Wild. Availability: Spawns in the wild. Name: Champ.
Health 2, Stamina 3, Speed 3, Acceleration 2.

No Champ isn't really one of the highest ranked riding horses. In fact, he has the least resale value of any. He ranks high enough with me that he has his own page of adventures. He still resides in my stable and he has gone out on a couple of more challenges. He's a plucky little fellow.

RDR2-Chestnut Tennessee Walker
At some point we all become familiar with this one.

Chestnut Tennessee Walker. Acquired: Not sure. Availability: Spawns in the wild. Unnamed.
Health 3, Stamina 3, Speed 2, Acceleration 2.

Aside from the 3 riding horses added later to Story Mode, the Tennessee Walkers have the highest value of riding horses found in the wild at 60 dollars so from here on I am ranking riding horses by value. I was very confused by this one because it seemed to just show up in my stable. I later learned that this is the default horse you get if you've lost or become separated from your horse during the course of a mission but I don't remember being in that situation at that time. I've had them show up after a horse death as well. If you like the rich chestnut colour, there's no need to go out of your way. One is bound to show up at some point.

RDR2-Red Roan Tennessee Walker
Love the forelock.

Red Roan Tennessee Walker. Acquired: Wild. Availability: Spawns in the wild. Unnamed.
Health 3, Stamina 3, Speed 2, Acceleration 2.

I meant to go horse hunting with this one but we didn't go very far when we ran into the unfortunate Cookie. So it was off to the stable and sold right away. Cookie went on our horse taming adventure instead.

RDR2-Dapple Bay Tennessee Walker
Interesting coat colour and pattern.

Dapple Bay Tennessee Walker. Acquired: Wild. Availability: Spawns in the wild. Unnamed.
Health 3, Stamina 3, Speed 2, Acceleration 2.

We captured this one while completing Horseman Challenge 10, completely forgetting that we had already tamed and ridden a Tennessee Walker for the challenge. I wanted a photo anyway and went to even less effort than usual. I did take the time to note that she's a she, however.
